highline and jewel bako makimono - short report

emma | Jul 7, 2004 10:24 AM

ventured to highline last thursday, had made an early reservation for 7:30 which was surprisingly easy. the restaurant was not that full at that point, but the bar was hopping. i found the food to be decent, nothing outstanding. i had the sea bass which was quite good, considering it was $14. i found the prices to be very reasonable. service could have been a little more attentive, but was not bad. when we left, the restaurant was full. one funny thing is, they have a kind of 'waterfall' in the dining area, for lack of a better word. water is supposed to trickle down. for whatever reason, water came gushing down twice, flooding the floor in the area. the nearest table had to be moved.

also had dinner at jewel bako makimono over the weekend. i'm a huge fan of jewel bako (although have only been once b/c i can't really afford it) and was not at all disappointed by my meal. i had the spicy tuna and some kind of salmon roll and thought it was delicious. also, grace lamb (i think) was delightful. it was my friend's birthday and she brought out a little mochi with a candle, which i thought was a nice touch.
