Hidden Shabu Shabu Opens Up In Rowland Heights; Other Openings, Too

I'm especially appreciative of Hound tips regarding new restaurants that aren't obvious from a drive by, so I thought I'd return the favor. Ah Lien Hot Pot is a newly opened restaurant which sort of fronts Colima Road, west of Nogales, but really isn't visible from the street. It's in the second row of stores in that center, and indeed doesn't even have a Colima Road street address--it's 1722 Desire Ave. However you can enter the shopping center from Colima, where perhaps the most prominent landmark is New Garden, the Chinese-Korean restaurant. I was at Ah Lien about 12:15pm and the place was empty.

In other Rowland Heights developments, a new restaurant called Jin Yuan, supposedly a branch of a well known restaurant in Taiwan, has opened up at Gale and Fullerton, right by where Wonton Forest used to be. Also on Gale, the Jazz Cat empire is expanding, though I couldn't tell if it's open yet. And the Vietnamese/Taiwanese fusion experiment appears to have failed. The Best Korner Taiwanese location outside the 99 Ranch Market, which turned into a pho restaurant incorporating Best Korner Taiwanese breakfasts, is now Best Noodle House.
