Found this place by chance, and what a find! In the back of a convenience store in a side road off Loch Raven Boulevard just off the Baltimore Beltway is a one table restaurant and take out place with amazing food: mainly modernised soul food made with good locally sourced ingredients by a talented chef, with other cultures thrown in.
Food cooked to order, so do some shopping or play a video game while you are waiting. This is what I have had so far from the varied menu:
Herb breaded, surprisingly moist chicken strips on a soft, flavorful sweet potato waffle, good mac and cheese, spicy greens-- makes you smile.
Turkey wing in real gravy with brown rice and black beans, meat-braised green beans. I knawed at the bones. I believe their hot sauce is home made too.
Cajun shrimp over cheesy polenta with greens (warning: this doesn't reheat so well). The polenta is a good foil for the in-your-face shrimp
Crackle pie with brown sugar, butter and little else. I had intended to take this home, but it jumped into my mouth.
My friend had catfish po boy, and vowed to return with his daughter.
The only thing I have had that is less than stellar is the Indian fry bread taco: the fry bread was good and reminded me of New Mexico, but the filling was standard.
They have homemade ultra sweet ice tea, good lemonade and some flavored water. Otherwise, choose from the refrigerator case in the convenience store.
