Heirloom Bakery & Cafe - South Pasadena

I'm a baked goods buff and I'd like to happily report a new find. Because I am obsessive about baked goods, I try to purchase a handful of standard treats upon first visiting a bakery. I then haul the cargo home and perform my own private tasting. I purchased a mini apple pie (quite ample in size and tall), a brownie, a chocolate chip cookie and a currant scone. All of these I find are useful benchmark barometers for the general quality of a bakery. I was very pleased with the apple pie. It had a moist seamless crust. There was a generous amount of apples and they were softly firm. Just perfect. I couldn't stop eating it and sighed when it was time to stop over indulging. The chocolate chip cookie was a comfortable size--not droopy and unwieldy-- and extremely fresh. It was not cloyingly sweet. I could taste the brown sugar. Always a good sign. The currant scone was substantial, had that perfect dry/moist balance and was mottled throughout with currants. Again, I couldn't stop eating it as opposed to merely tasting. All the baked goods were consistently fresh. Nothing tasted a day old. This bakery is the real thing. I'll be going back for more apple pie.
