I'm very lucky to have Heidelberg located around the corner from my apartment. I had a great dinner there this past Saturday night. Service was friendly and attentive (except my water glass didn't get refilled when needed). Food was delicious. The warm greeting at the front door carried through to our server who was very helpful (bringing extra plates for sharing, clearing away empty dishes, checking back with us numerous times to make sure we were happy (we were very happy)).
We started with three appetizers: potato latkes that are the best I've had next to my mother's recipe--crisp and light with an excellent potato/onion ratio; spatzle with cheese (almost like macaroni and cheese); and a refreshing cucumber salad. We also ordered a fresh salted pretzel that was coated in butter and mustard on the side
Our main courses were the Jager Schnitzel with a wonderful mushroom cream sauce that was full of mushrooms and onions and a special: rack of lamb (4 baby lamb chops that were very tender, cooked to a perfect rose color with no gamey flavor). The accompanying sides were spatzle with butter and cooked red cabbage.
Needed to save room for dessert: Eis Kaffe (coffee poured over vanilla ice cream) and Palatschinken (similar to crepes) filled with nutella.
Since the restaurant doesn't take reservations on the weekend, we arrived at 5:45, and were seated at a table for 4 which was great with all the many plates. Definitely plan to return (soon).
