I have had the pleasure of dining at Hearth on the north-eastern corner of First Avenue and 12th twice now. Both meals were stellar. The first time I had the tasting menu, which embodied an inventive, high quality range of food including scallops, tender fish and juicy sirloin. On the other occasion I had the gnocci which was marvelously tender. This food has a lot of love and care put into it. The sauces and and herbs that float around the entree's main event are supporting players equally worthy of praise. All of the food is fresh, seasonal and purchased locally.

As if the food weren't enough, the wine list is varied and authoritative. One can experiment with a Greek Rose or go with a more familiar French Chardonnay. The wine book itself proves informative and possesed of a rapier wit.

With the food and drink as high quality as they are, what more could one ask? Both times I have visited Hearth, I have been treated extrordinarily well. The bartenders and managers have made a point of checking in, asking how my evening was going and discussing the finer points of Chianti. Even the waiters who weren't responsible for me smiled and said hello. These people treat their guests well. The overall vibe of the restaurant is that everyone there loves food and knows how to deliver. This place has the goods!
