Hawaii -- Ahi Don?

Tarheel Nathan | Apr 22, 2005 12:28 PM

I lived on the Big Island for a few months and regularly ate lunch in Hilo at a place called Honu's Nest. They served delicious ahi don. A big bowl of rice and crisp vegetables with battered and fried ahi on top. And if you begged them enough, they would cook the ahi rare so that it was soft and moist inside and deliciously fried on the outside. Ah, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

I'm going back to visit in a few weeks, and unfortunately, Honu's has closed its doors. Which brings me to my question --

Is anyone familiar with Honu's Nest that can recommend a place where I can get a similar ahi don experience? I'll be on Oahu and the Big Island, so either will work. Thanks.
