For those of you who remember Harralds as an incredible unique restaurant up in Stormville -- absolutely top-flight food and service with an octogenarian couple playing host and chef, it has now reopened.
But don't get your hopes up -- it is awful now. About six months ago, the wife got ill, and they shut down and sold the place to a new owner. What a shame! While the food used to be absolutely perfect (although predictable, since the ten selections never changed), it is now mediocre at best, and the perviously wonderful wine list has been replaced by a very spare and uninteresting list. None of the wait staff knew the slightest thing about either the food or the wine; several of them referred all questions to the one server who apparently orders all the wine -- he couldn't answer even the simplest questions about the list. Literally, there were only about twenty wines on the entire list, and he had no idea what any of the four whites I was considering either tasted like or were made of. To top it off, one of us got sick after the dinner.
oh well. . .
