A new Murph's opened up in Palm Desert and today was my first time there (I'm from LA and made a trip to Palm Springs this weekend). LOVED this place. We just happened to have drove by and it caught our eye -- there are just so many chains we thought we'd never find a place to eat. Well, I didn't know there was another location.... the original place is in Bermuda Dunes. I plan on trying out that place the next time I head out that way.
The chicken dinner was... neverending! They start you off with chicken soup and cornbread. When you're done, they bring a bowl of salad (basically lettuce, a few chunks of egg, a beet, and some dressing over it). When you're done with that, the chicken comes. Oh man.... they bring a plate with fried wings, breasts, thighs... the whole 9... and (unlimited) sides. We were served blackeyed peas, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, and biscuits. The chicken was juicy with a nice crispy skin. The cornbread was okay. I wish it came warmer but I did like it. We liked the chicken soup a lot. The biscuits were awesome. I ordered an extra serving. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good too. Very simple and comforting.
People at the next booth said they've been going to the original place for over 20 years and now they go to the new one as well. Well, I just wanted to write about my experience before I forget. OH, and the service was warm, friendly, and efficient. They introduce themselves and they keep your water glass full and are always asking if you want seconds. Solid, nice folks...... I will definitely return.
