So I had the chance to check out the new concept of Steven Arroyo, owner of Cobras and Matadors on Beverly.
My dining companion and I got there at 8:00pm. A few tables were taken. The decor is very casual, with a hip version of an old asian tavern/watering hole. Music is rock and roll, nice vibe.
Staff was very friendly and seated us immediately. Food came out SUPER fast, which is a nice change for a new restaurant. We ordered the following:
1. Tofu Fries - Interesting concept, but not a lot of flavor. Would like to have seen a bit more seasoning as a coating. Came with a Yuzu Aioli and was lacking a little flavor as well. But loved the concept.
2. Yakitori - We ordered both the salmon and steak, which were both very good. The steak was really tender and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of sauce. Salmon was moist and not over cooked.
3. Chinese Broccoli - Very good. Could have ordered another one!
4. Korean Short Ribs - Not as authentic as you get in k-town, but had a good flavor and nice grilled onion.
All in all, it was a very good experience. Would like to see some more vegetarian options, but I'm sure they will add as they go.
Mind you this is not authentic asian tavern food, but it is a very tasteful version california style. Will definitely come back!
