Gunning's Seafood Restaurant--review

Johnlw | May 5, 2003 07:56 AM

We had friends from Seattle passing through, and wanted to give them a feel of authentic Baltimore cuisine, namely steamed crabs. Based upon a recommendation from the board, we went to Gunning's Seafood Restaurant in Hanover, near BWI airport.

We had a blast. I reserved two dozen extra large crabs, and they kept them for us. We did not try much else, salads and fried mozzarella that my friend ordered for us. We had two pitchers of a good lager, and enjoyed the crabs which were large, well seasoned, and heavy. I think they are flown in from the Gulf of Mexico, not caught locally.

The restaurant reminds me of a Baltimore neighborhood restaurant, only in this case the neighborhood has gone away. It is in an area that is now mostly industrial or airport related.

But no matter, I will be back, because it is the closest spot to Columbia that has good steamed crabs.
