Had a forgettable meal but an enjoyable time at Gulliver's in Burlingame. Gulliver's specializes in Prime Rib. My dining companion had the roast beef, which was a bit dry when I tried a taste. Creamed spinach with nutmeg was a reasonable side dish, the yorkshire pudding was dry and didn't taste nearly unhealthy enough. Creamed corn was provided on the side, but I'm not a fan of it and can't say whether it was any good. I had the chicken picatta, which was passable but nothing special -- upscale hotel chain food at best.
So what's good about this place? The service was impeccable, and the wait staff are dressed in tricorn hats and Olde English costumes. Also of note to any Jonathan Swift fan is the decor, which has many lithographs and prints of various scenes from Gulliver's Travels (the men's bathroom instructions makes a few cracks at the Lilliputians' expense). I can see this being a fun place to have a few drinks if trapped at a nearby conference of Yahoos. (Houyhnhnm is not on the menu.)
If the thought of renaissance festivals gives you a migraine, you probably don't want to visit this place. If you enjoy giant Paul Bunyan statues and "World's Largest Peanut" statues on your road trips, then the "Lemuel Lounge" might be the place for you. Thankfully, the wait staff do not affect Winona Ryder-style British accents.
