Grub on a Rainy Day

lil mikey | Nov 9, 200505:15 PM

Today was the perfect day for my first visit to Grub Restaurant. They have a very extensive menu for such a small place.

I got a table by the window and ordered the after school special.

While I waited, they brought out a basket of crudites with ice cold carrot and zucchini slices and a cherry tomato. It was served with a small cup of ranch dressing and a handful of little pretzels. Nice touch.

The after school special is a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of tomato soup. The grilled cheese sandwich has both cheddar and jack cheeses and is served on sourdough bread. The butter they use on the outside of the bread has dill in it, so there is a nice unique flavor.

The tomato soup is chunky and creamy and really tasty, especially with the grilled cheese sandwich. It’s kind of a food-processor soup. There are chunks of tomato in there that make it taste fresh and tangy, even with the added cream. There is also a dill sprig across the top, so there was a taste connection with the dill buttered sandwich.

There was something just right about eating a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup while looking out the window at the cold grey rainy day.

On the down side, the after school special is $9.95, and that, along with a large glass of iced tea plus tax came to $12.90. That’s a little steep for what you get.

So it’s not something I’ll be ordering often. But on a rainy day, it just fit.
