Grovesnor Arms (Shaftesbury)

Terrific small hotel in a town that probably not many of us will ever stay in. But... don't eat dinner there anytime too soon. The service was OK (many complaints on Trip Advisor), but the food is not worth the exorbitant prices. My husband was happy enough with his hake main course, but my ravioli with braised lettuce was fairly inedible. Should ravioli come swimming in a tepid, horrible broth with the lettuce floating around in it? Well, it's not for me. I must say that the desserts were excellent - a sticky toffee pudding and a delicious chocolate mousse. My a la carte, 'garden salad,' was very tiny for £3.50 and included no leaves.. just mostly cucumber.

Luckily, breakfast the next day (included with the hotel stay) was excellent. But the owners should be ashamed to charge London prices for what is very mediocre dinners.
