Another month, more deals at Grocery Outlet. Please share your finds!
Here's what I spotted at the Salinas GO yesterday:
Big selection of cheese, butter and other dairy products, and at that time, kind of a mess with items squeezed tightly on the displays and the shelf price tags did not match the inventory.
Whey Cool Mild Blue Cheese, 5 oz/$4.99 - This is a new brand. Though I could not match the California dairy plant number (06-00121) with a name, based on the address, the company is located at Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company's distribution center in Petaluma. Aged for 30 days, the tangy acidity of fresh cheese is more prominent than salt or blueness. Texture is smooth and fudgey. I did enjoy it with a fresh pear, but my personal preference is for a more assertive blue.
Saint Helen's goat milk butter, $3.99 - repeat purchase for me
Polly-O whole milk mozzarella, $1.99 - past best by date
Di Stefano burrata, $4.99 - After being disappointed the first time I bought this a few months ago, I've learned to study the water in the tub and give it a shake in order to judge opacity. My first go, some of the balls had split and lost their cream into the water. It's not burrata without the liquid cream in the core, becoming an overpriced mozzarella. So I only found two tubs to buy that looked satisfactory.
Galbani mini sliced log fresh mozzarella, 8 oz/$2.49
Velveeta jalapeño, 2/$1 - past best by date
Straus organic whole milk yogurt, maple, pomegranate or plain, $3.99/quart
Finlandia butter, salted or unsalted, $3.49
Zoe's smoked turkey or chicken breast, $3.99
Late July organic sea salt & vinegar potato chips, 99¢
