Grilling fish--keep filet whole or cut into individual portions before grilling?

Thinking of grilling halibut tomorrow....since my original thread has veered off in another direction, I would like to know if anyone can give me an answer as to which one of these choices will give the best chance of having the fish come out well....

Plan to use a charcoal grill and grill fish skin side down. I will feed 7 people so will probably buy about 3+pounds of fish filet.
