I met my sister for lunch today at the Ferry Building. We picked up some stuff to eat (ham and cheese and apple croissants at Acme, a roasted beet salad at Lulu), but it was too wet to eat outside, and as noted before, there are no benches or seating areas inside the building. Ah ha, I remembered, we can go to the wine bar, sit down, eat and have some wine with our lunch!
We seated ourselves and the server immediately appeared bearing paper plates! He asked us what we were having for lunch, and we consulted with him about our wine selection. He actually talked us out of a more expensive selection (I was going to treat my sister to a full glass of champagne, it being her birthday) and into half glasses of a rose and a riesling, which he thought would go better with the food (which they did, particularly the rose with the beets). As we were eating our apple croissant I checked to see which dessert wines they were pouring and decided that we couldn't resist a Sauterne. We ordered one 2-oz taste and without us asking he split it into two glasses (and I think he topped them up a bit as well).
It's extra touches like that that will bring me back again. Total tab, BTW, was $11 with tax but before a generous tip.
