great new mideastern bakery near kebab/mombar! yum!
we were walking up steinway on the way to dinner @ kebab cafe a couple nights ago (for those who have not experienced kebab cafe, search this board or just go..) and walked past a newbakery. it's a block or two south of kebab cafe on the west side of the street.
first impressions: on walking up the street before dinner: clean, well-lit, impeccably organized, somewhat antiseptic in appearance (the workers wearing whiteish foodworkerjackets and all)
after dinner (high afterkebab feeling, no room in the stomach) i went in with my indecisive friends.
the smell in there was rich and doughy, with a little nut in the air
the woman who waited on us was a kick! -- my friends were being indecisive so she said "oh should i just give you two of everything" and we all smiled. she pointed and would occasionally sneak a look at her boss for about 240ms and hand us a coookie saying "try this, it's so good". sly
been eating them from the fridge (ok i have been standing with the fridge open and eating but it's hot!!!) the past few days
my favorite is this wafer shaped (wafer shape = round and somewhat thin) coookie with pistachio nut pieces in the dough and big sesame seeds covering the top. it crumbled in my mouth.
there were other things besides coookies there, besides the obligatory beveragecase there were some puddinglooking things and so on but we just got cookies and some baklava minis.
i'm sorry i don't remember the name but i'm sitting in my office and it's hot outside.
