Ihawan BBQ House -- 40-06 70th Street, Woodside, NY.
This is by far the best restaurant Filipino food I've had in the NY/NJ area. Very inexpensive too!
I highly recommend these dishes:
1) Sinigang (a richly flavored soup with a tamarind base) 2) Laing (Gabi leaves with coconut milk and ginger) 3) Lumpia Sariwa (a fresh spring roll with a garlicky topping) 4) Any of the BBQ 5) Pork Adobo
6) Escabeche (Whole fish with a tangy salsa) 7) Any of the Pancit (like lo mein) 8) Canteloupe drink 9) Halo-Halo for Dessert
The vast majority of their food is outstanding, the only dish I was ever disappointed in was the embotido which is a bit like a meat loaf stuffed with different ingredients. My husband's aunt spoiled me because her's is so good.
For the more adventurous, do try the dinaguan (the sauce is chocolaty and contains pigs blood). Also, the Kare-Kare (oxtails in peanut sauce). I am quite fond of this dish, though it is quite rich.
