We went to Twenty21 tonight and had a great time. I had not previously been aware that they have a restaurant week type menu every Friday night -- $30 for any soup or salad, any entree and a dessert from a slightly abbreviated menu.
The food was good -- I had striped bass over spinach gnocchi in a saffron/vanilla/mussel sauce. The gnocchi were good, the sauce was great, the fish was just ok.
The salad, bizarrely but delightfully, was the best salad I've had -- tiny pieces of apple, raisin and stilton were mixed with microgreens. And it was very plentiful.
But the real reason I'm posting is the loveliness of the staff. I called earlier in the day and asked if, because we were going for a friend's birthday, they might be able to do a "special" dessert. Mick Houston, the friendly and extremely obliging events manager there, said no problem, even for just four of us. When dessert came, it was a beautiful platter with seven different desserts on it! It looked like something from a wedding, and had chocolate pie, raspberry napolean, frozen hazelnut somethings, appley bread pudding... cranberry cheesecake... I have to stop, I think I'm too full to talk about it. But it was very nice, and really nicely presented, and they didn't charge us extra for it even on this extremely good deal price fix dinner. We had a great evening and it was largely thanks to their help. So I thought I'd let you all know.
