great brunch -- grand cafe (williamsburg)

i've been to grand cafe (off of bedford on grand) 4 times recently for brunch -- and i have to say it is one of the best brunch places in the neighborhood. it is rarely crowded and the vibe is wonderful. there are plenty of comfy seats inside, outside and then in a "garden" room (combines inside/outside feel).

while the service can be slow and a little sloppy at times, the servers are always friendly and helpful.

but most importantly, the food is divine. their middle eastern egg dishes are phenomenal -- i always get this one (i forget what its called) which is poached eggs with a tomato/garlic/onion stew-type thing, which is served with hummus and pita and is incredible.

equally incredible though is their french toast. now, i never ever order french toast/pancakes/etc. for brunch, am strictly an eggs-person. until this place. they do french toast layered with brie and jam, served with fresh fruit (lots too!). it is one of the best things i've ever eaten in my life.

i've tried other items - some salads (which were good), an omelete (which was good, but not as good as the more featured items), and the eggs benedict (fine as well, but i would never order again).

the food is reliably good and reasonable (about $9 for the meal, tea/coffee and orange juice). and the atmosphere is great. my only complaint (other than mediocre but friendly service) would be that they list "homemade lemonade" as a brunch option, and all 4 times i've gone their they've claimed to be out of it -- which makes me think they may not be making it anymore.

additonally (and totally randomly), they have some plumbing issues and won't let you flush any paper down the toilet (this includes toilet paper) -- which kind of grosses me out. but i've gotten over it by just never going to the bathroom there and avoiding it at all costs.

anyway, couldn't find a discussion of this place anywhere on the board, so i thought i would mention it. i've never been there for lunch/dinner and would love to know what other people think of it.
