whenever i hear about cheeseboard bread i always read raves about the baguettes or the cheese rolls. i live nearby and usually get cheese rolls or asiago bread (though i've often found the cheese rolls to be a little too hard & chewy) as well as pizza.
somehow, i've been a cheeseboard customer for over two years without trying their city batard. this IMHO is a fabulous loaf of bread. it was fresh out of the oven when i happened by, and it was perfect...thin crispy crust and soft inside that still had enough "chew" to be satisfying. a friend & i made a lunch of the bread with some castel blue cheese (for him) and some creamy havarti (for me). i don't know how this would stand up to time since i know fresh bread is always better than day old...but i'd wager that this delicious basic loaf is still great the next day. we'll have to try not to consume the loaf in one sitting next time so as to try it the day after.
i love living in a place where i can go buy fabulous food like this two minutes from my apartment. =D
