In a farmers market shopping buzz the other weekend , I picked up 4 oz. of grains of paradise , after reading something about them in a newspaper . Now , 4 oz. by weight is actually quite a lot of any dried spice . I love the way it tastes , kinda floral and peppery , with a hint of coconut , or something , but what should I do with it ? I cracked some in a mortar and pestle and mixed it in a simple rice pilaf with butter and shallot , and that was tasty . Anyone know any traditional recipes ? Or should I just put in another pepper mill ? Seems like it would be tasty on fish , steamed in a banana leaf . Just curious .
