Looking to buy local wheatberries, I found a thread on chowhound that mentioned a grain CSA from Pioneer Valley. This looks great, with a mix of whole grains and beans.
I would love to sign up for something like this but have some questions.
- As a household of one, would a half-share be too much? I cook a lot, bake bread, use a lot of beans and whole grains and bring lunch to work every day but am not sure how much a bushel translates to for one person.
- Is grinding flour from whole grains doable in a small apartment kitchen?
- Is there a place to buy whole grains and beans in bulk that are grown in the area?
- how long will these whole grains and beans keep if stored properly? I don't have a large freezer so they would be stored at room temp.
