I've dined at Grace once. The food was pretty but the corn soup was unpleasantly thick, unfortunately bland. Of the four stuffed vegetables, the deepfried squash blossoms were a treat, the heirloom tomato suffed with couscous flat, the red bell pepper stuffed with rice, chopped nuts, currants and herbs quite nice, and the squat squash with fava beans and corn not to my liking. I'm pleased that the chef has made a commitment to offering a few vegan dishes, but he appears to fear deep flavors and salt -- at least in the dishes I had. The dessert was tiny. One glass of wine was generously poured, the other avariciously.
Juliano's Raw is lovely. May it thrive! The food, which impressed me as closer to dip than any other conventional edible, is exceedingly pretty, complex, moist, studded with flowers, strewn with shaved purple cabbage, rich with nut flavors. Corner of Sixth and Broadway in Santa Monica.
