Day 3 of my February visit to Sacramento started in Elk Grove where I'd stayed overnight at my auntie's house. Elk Grover's mayor started up the town's only coffee roaster. It donates 10% of its profits to charity. I figured I'd try it just before jumping on the I-5. It's location next to the freeway on-ramp makes it an easy stop for morning commuters.
While it describes itself as a "hipster coffee house", the formica surfaces seemed more like suburban strip mall.
The cappuccino was terrible, more than half foam and hardly tasting like coffee. I brought it back to the cashier and said gently, "Um, I ordered a cappuccino and this seems more like a cafe au lait."
The re-do was a little better. This was up to latte strength, but quite a failure as a cappuccino. This was considerably hotter than the capps I'd had the previous two mornings at Old Soul and Temple, and unlike those, had a bitter aftertaste and little in the way of character. I guess classic espresso drinks are not the thing to order here.
