Had a chance to hit Mi Pueblito in The Dalles for lunch today. Man, I like this little truck. Great stuff. I had a couple of my favorite tacos there, the carne asada and the cabeza. I also finally tried one of their tamales. Then they let me have a taste of their special of the day, costillas de puerco guisada (pork rib stew). Wow! The tacos were typically good, but the stew was excellent. It was like a simple Indian curry with a nice picante kick. The ribs were tender. There was tomato, cumin, chile, and other flavors. Meaty, too. You get an order with several ribs, tortillas, rice, and beans for about $6. The tamales are only $1, but they're only okay. I think these might have had pumpkin in them, though, if that's your thing. They just were a bit bland and the chicken was too dry. Everything else there I've tried is very good, though. See the link below for a map. I think they're open for lunch and dinner every day but Sunday. I'm going to keep pushing this place until someone else goes there.
Hit a taqueria finally in Hood River (The Hood River Taqueria) on my way home. Not very good, though. I tried three tacos and all were no better than okay: carne asada, carnitas, birria. They were dry and not really nicely flavored. The horchata I got was mediocre, too. They do have lots more than tacos on their menu, however, that might be worth at least trying. eg, they had a huge mariscos menu. There are a couple other Mexican restaurants in the area that I might try.
