Last night I sent my husband to Whole Foods, the one located on Franklin, for some sliced to order pate. He came home with their goose mousse. At $18 a pound, this stuff is just like foie gras pate! The color, taste, and texture is so similiar. I'll be using it in the Beef Wellington that I'm making for dinner tomorrow night.
By the way, I don't know about Whole Foods in other cities, but in SF, only this location's Speciality Foods section has the sliced to order pate. Other stores carry pre-packaged, which I've tried and they are terrible to the fresh thing. (even though the SOMA location guy told me they made it fresh and just packed it themself)
