Google Goggles Menu Translator?

racer x | Nov 1, 2010 06:14 PM

I've only recently heard about the Goggle Goggles application for iphone or android phones. It is designed to allow you to do web searches just by taking a picture with your phone's camera.

An added benefit is that it supposedly can translate foreign menus.
From what I understand, you just take a picture with your phone of a foreign phrase, and it translates for you. You don't have to do any typing.

If it works as advertised, it would have come in very handy on some recent trips abroad, especially in Asia. It's one thing to type Roman characters into your pocket translator in, say, Germany. It's something else entirely if you're in Russia or China or Egypt, where they use different scripts.

Anyone have any experience with this app?

(And is there anything else out there remotely like this?)
