i can't believe it. the westville pub actually has something worth eating. i went four times to be sure it wasn't a fluke before posting here.
i'd have to say these are the best wings i've had in asheville. they come in just two flavors (wimpy & whoop-ass), and the latter barely qualifies as medium-hot. but the flavor is there. they're cooked properly (not flabby like at wild wing, or overcooked like at hooters). the sauce is tasty, if mild.
the accompanying bleu cheese sauce/dressing is probably the best i've had at any wing joint. it actually tastes like bleu cheese, and has a comparatively abundant amount of cheese crumbled in it. not at all like those ranch-based sauces that most places foist on you.
in all fairness, given my opening paragraph, the pub has improved quite a bit recently. it would take too much space to recount what a joke this place has been in the past (far more often than not we've left after a half hour or so without even being acknowledged by the staff - it became sort of a running joke & challenge for us). we gave them a shot when needing grease and carbs to counteract too much beer after one of the walk-in movies a month or so ago and had prompt service, so decided to risk it again shortly thereafter. i've been back the aforementioned four times now, and while it hasn't been great, it has been better.
we've tried the various quesadillas, and been satisfied. the wings are good. the pan-asian shrimp fritters were good, as were the salads. nachos are ok, but a rip-off. prices are still a little too high, but since the service issues seem to be worked out now, i can deal with it. i'm glad this place has turned around as it's the closest place to my house, and a decent place to hang out. i wouldn't go out of my way to get there (well, maybe for the wings if i really had a hankering), but it's a passable place for a good variety of brews, some live music (if you're there the right night), and something to nosh on.
