I have been stopping in Danbury for lunch on my way north lately. It is just a quick stop off the highway and it always seem to have interesting new restaurants to try. For those that travel along 84 its just a five minute detour and well worth the drive. Usually we stop in the Brazilian music store and see what restaurants they recommend. They usually have sent us to good places. Though I will admit one or two have been duds.
Here is a few that we have tried and liked.
58 main street Danbury Conn 203 778-5755 or 1282 Bridgeport CT 203 334-2262 or 94 union Ave Framingham MA 508 620-9354 We went to the Danbury branch which had good food and is new in town if we understood correctly. The restaurant is a buffet style - pay by weight and is therefore speedy. Meat is grilled as you advance in line and ranges from three cuts of beef, (sirloin, round and brisket) to chicken hearts, pork butt and some awesome pork sausage. The family thought it was one of the best lunches they have had in the area.
11 Railroad Place, Danbury CT. 203 748-1020 Right in downtown Danbury just to the east of main street, el sabor is a hard to miss - Howard Johnsons blue - diner. A family owned business and a good one. I am not a great fan of Ecuadorian food, but my, did we have some great soup and chicken the other day. Took a while though. Try the specials.
Also in Danbury try
for diner. I think it is off rt 6 near the ridgewood country club
Down the road aways I would recommend
740 Main street on route 6 in Woodbury. Turn north off of the highway and it is about 3-4 miles on the left. They make their own donuts that are worth the trip without the rest of breakfast or lunch. Four flavors only plain, cinnamon, chocolate or jelly. They are also known for their pies, savory and sweet.
If you know any others would love to hear them,
