SLO is seriously lacking in ethnic eateries, so imagine my delight when a friend discovered the Cornerstone Market and Deli (1212 Higuera Street, about a block and a half up, i.e., away from downtown, from Santa Rosa). They serve fresh falafel, gyros, hummus dishes, etc. They also carry a few imported foodstuffs, such as marinated eggplant. The falafel was large and delicious with a tart & tangy sauce. It was served with a pickle spear and cost all of $3.99. They have some tables inside and out and is a nice spot for lunch.
Oh, we also tried out a new coffee place. Outspoken, at 1422 Monterey Street (attached to the Better Bike Shop) has a wide variety of coffee drinks. You have your choice of Illy or the house bean. As it was a warm day, we opted for iced coffee (but not the fancy frozen slushy coffee drinks, which the proprietoress told us was fabulous and only 170 calories!).
