Not-so-good experience at Caffe Carciofo

I know Carciofo comes highly recommended by some of you guys, so I was surprised and disappointed by the meal I had there on Saturday. The house salad was nothing but lettuce (a slice of tomato would have been nice!), and I've made better vinaigrettes at home. Our food took quite a while to arrive, and was pretty boring when it did come. I had seafood ravioli with pomodoro sauce -- the ravioli stuffing didn't taste like much of anything, and again, I've made better, more flavorful tomato sauce at home. My date had fusilli with mushrooms and white wine sauce -- the pasta was overcooked (to the point of limpness), and the sauce was nothing terribly interesting. Both dishes were improved vastly by several grinds of black pepper -- but we didn't get that until I flagged down the waitress after we were already half done with the meal.

Did we just order the wrong thing? Based on that experience, I wouldn't bother going back, but I've heard enough good things (both here and from friends in the area) that I might reconsider if I knew what to order.
