Well, at Barbara Hansen's commentary in her blog, she mentioned the cafe at the Colburn School, which is also home to Zipper Hall.
Well, tried this place today for lunch as I attended a rehearsal at Disney this morning, and it is a really nice space, and is open until 7:30 every M-F evening, and even on Saturday until 2:30, right after the start of any potential Saturday matinees you might attend. Also convenient to MOCA, as its access is also behind MOCA(Grand Ave. location).
Here are her comments. Definitely worth a try if in the neighborhood. Many downtown LA employees also eating there as it is open to the general public. Just walk throught the Grand Avenue entrance to Colburn, out the back door, and veer to your right across the patio. You will be glad to know of this alternative to the usual Patina fare, even though operated by Compass Group, the parent of Patina Group.
Had a tilapia with veggies for $6.49. Perfectly sized serving. Companion had what appeared to be a very nice sandwich with side slaw and chips, for the same price. Salads, pizza, etc. also available, and Peet's Coffee brewed every hour!
