Its amazing how you immediately start craving certain things when you notice their abscence -- Rachel and I went to see "X-Men" at the movies a few days ago in Morristown NJ, and on my visit to the concession stand, I walked up to the counter and asked for Goldenberg's Peanut Chews and a large Coke.
"You want what?" the pimply-faced 16-year old stand attendant said.
"Goldenberg's... Peanut... Chews" I responded, as if I was talking to some village idiot. After all, Goldenberg's peanut chews have been the staples of movie theatres for what, billions of years? I mean arent they THE penultimate movie candy?
"Um, I'm not sure what you're talking about, we've never had those" responded the Kid.
"What the hell do you mean you've never had them?" I implored. What was this, the freaking Twilight Zone? "Those little caramel things with peanuts in them covered with chocolate, with the red and brown wrapper that's never changed since the beginning of time?"
"Um... we have peanut brittle.... thats the only thing we have with peanuts in them.."
Maybe it was Loews, maybe its regional trends, I dunno. But I thought Goldenberg's were essential to the east-coast moviegoing experience. Did anyone else notice these things disappeared at movie theatres?
For you out of towners (I think Goldenbergs are purely an east coast thing, they are produced in Philadelphia) I includeded the companie's URL so you can order them direct. Trust me, they go good with movies.
