Gold Line Guide to Chinatown Restaurants

Chowpatty | Feb 1, 2004 03:27 PM

I picked up this free brochure at a Chinatown shop last night because Chowpup "needed" some smoke bombs and barbecued ribs from Sam Woo. It's a brochure and map written by former councilman Mike Woo. My favorite line "To figure out how to order a meal in an unfamiliar restaurant, do not hesitate to ask your waiter or another customer at a nearby table who is beholding a dish which smells delicious to you."
It's got a list of restaurants and quotes from downtown folks including Lisa See and David Shaw describing their favorite Chinatown restaurants. I known most of these place don't hold a candle to their SGV brethren, but it's nice to see some people still go to Golden Dragon, where my mom used to take me for dim sum circa 1973. Mayor Hahn's favorite dish is -- what a surprise -- slippery shrimp at Yang Chow. Anyway, it's a useful effort for those unfamiliar with the area.
