So following a fellow chow Hound's tip (please forgive I don't remember the name to give credit to) I went last night to Hacienda de Argentia 339 E. 75th St (1st and 2d ave) 212 -472-5300. We were so satisfied. The place looks suitably Argentine. The welcome was friendly and the table comfortable. It was not empty, though it was after 9pm. There was a large party and several other diners. The manager (a woman, how nice to see) greeted us and thanked us for coming (they've been open 4 months) So, now let's cut to the chow! For $112.00 (with tax but before the tip) we had two drinks. Good bartender, I had the house specialty, some type of lemon mint drink - tasted a bit like a mojito - really good and though it was $12.00 it was huge! The bread is baked fresh. We each ordered salads (good) and between that and the main course we shared gnocci in a light tomato sauce. These were fabulous - light, tasty, so pleasing. I had the parillla mixta. I came with a short rib, sweetbread, steak and chicken. Now when I eat parilla I expect morcilla (blood sausage) and I asked them and they did substitute it for the chicken.(the wait staff was very accomodating) It was so good. Unless you travel to Queens you won't find better. My husband had a 12 ounce shirt steak. Some well prepared chimichurri on the side. All the meat was extremely tender, very flavorful and cooked just as ordered. (the entrees come with no sides) For desert we shared a plate of chocolate covered cookies that had dulce de leche sandwiched in between, fresh strawberries and vanilla icecream, 1 double espresso and 1 cappucino. We were very pleased, will defintely go back, great value and (oh my god) good service. Let's hope they can maintain it. If you're in the mood for meat, go! You won't be dissapointed.
