GMOs: Why people are all mad for the wrong reasons

JetLaggedChef | Feb 3, 201508:08 AM

I'm not going to debate whether or not there's actually any *real* scientific evidence that genetically modified food actually has any harmful effects on people (though I will point out that we've been cross-breeding plants and animals for thousands of years and that in all likelihood, the success of our current survival is largely related to this.) I'll reserve my opinion the effect of lab GMOs until I see real scientific evidence, not anti-vacciner made-up statistics. Because science.

But what I will point out is that companies that are producing GMOs are patenting the seeds. As farmers begin using more GMOs, the ownership of all of our food supply is being shifted from farmers to large corporations. The seeds that we currently use to produce crops will eventually become extinct and all our food supply will be controlled by a few large corporations.

I'd love to see a movement where people started demanding changes in patenting laws for GMOs to protect control of our food supply instead of complaining about perceived effects based on anti-vaccine logic.
