Had a great thanksgiving with 28 members of my family. I happened to bring something that everyone really enjoyed and hadn't had before. (a very simple dessert and a new recipe to me.) Many of my family are on FB and see that I post different things I make sometime and somehow think that makes me a serious cook. (not just enjoy food) Anyway, an aunt asked me for the recipe, but then immediately backtracked and said.. you probably don't give out your recipe secrets. Um... of course I do. Had the same question asked at work once on something i brought. I guess some people at work bring their "signature dishes" and don't want to give out the recipes. I am always happy to give them out. I usually found the recipe somewhere online anyway, then I tell them what I did differently if anything.
I think it's weird that someone wouldn't share. What's your take? Caveat... I'm no chef, I do not cook food for a living at all. So no one is going to be taking food away from my restaurant if I give out a recipe. I can see restaurants keeping their recipes close.
