I've been searching and searching for a recipe to recreate the childhood bakery cookies our family used to get in Chicago. They look like the traditional bakery cookie, ladyfinger shape, with vanilla frosting inside and the ends dipped in sprinkles.
I've read through the chowhound posts with readers searching for Italian bakery cookies. These are a completely different thing. The italian bakery cookie, I've found, is sweeter and slightly more dense, whereas the german cookie has the tiniest more crunch, less pronounced sugar/almond flavor.
Regardless, why is this recipe so hard to find!! Is there a secret baker cabal where they share their recipes!!! :-) Here is a pic of what i'm looking for, although even these aren't quite right because they have jam filling.
