Gastrognome - Idyllwild

Had a wonderful early dinner at Gastrognome yesterday. First they bring out the most delicious house-baked bread - warm, dense wonderfully tasty with the butter. I ordered the French Onion soup - I have to say that it is one of the better versions I have had (wish that I would have splurged the extra $2 for the bowl!!).
We both ordered specials - I had the Sausage Pasta: penne with a pretty spicy sausage in a rosemary/tomato/cream sauce. Delicious! I asked them to add capers and the waitress came back and said that the chef wanted to let me know that the sausage was salty and it may oversalt the dish. She said that they could give me the capers on the side. I thought that was really nice of the chef to ask about that. Mom had the Bacon-Wrapped Salmon and Scallops - served with mashed potatoes and green beans. She took some of my capers and I poured some of the caper juice over her green beans. We were both extremely pleased with our meals. All that along with one glass of wine came to under $50 before tip.
If you head up to Idyllwild I would definitely recommend it.
