"Gastro": Can we clarify the meaning?

I just saw a post entitled: "Where's best for gastro villa holiday"

I am BTW highly jealous of the poster, it sounds like they are planning a wonderful trip!

But the term "gastro" gives me the heebie-jeebies. In medical lingo, "gastro" in short for gastroenteritis, a very unpleasant viral illness involving nausea, vomit and diarrhea. Very bad memories associated with this term! That would not be an appealing holiday plan for me!

I recall a post where they were suggesting an alternate name for foodies, and Gastro was suggested as an alternative. Shudder....

So please please please, can we avoid this short hand when we are talking about gastronomy? I hate to say, the meaning of this word has been for all intents and purposes co-opted by the medical crowd, and to no good end... It's going to be hard to shake the negative connotations.
