my Ganache did not really harden

i made a cake last week and wanted a ganache/glaze that i could pour over the cake. i used a recipe with cream, corn syrup and chocolate and it was nice and shiny. however, i noticed that when we cut the cake, the ganache was still too liquidy. is it because of the corn syrup? can i get the same shininess with just cream and chocolate and does that turn out stiffer?
