Sometimes something very early in life influences us beyond the sensible. When I was quite young a friend of my father's went hunting and returned to give my father some wonderful venison (so he said) for a treat. My mother being a nice Jewish mother certainly did not know how to cook this very unkosher meat and was highly unwilling, but daddy insisted (very adventurous guy). Anyway all five of us were seated at the dining room table and my mother entered with a steaming roast of venison. I being the eldest and the biggest mouth asked "Mommy what is that?" "Why its venison that you father brought home," she replied. "What's venison?" My father who always answered our dinner table questions, proudly announced "Its deer" Well there then ensued much crying and yelling--the gist being we were not going to eat Bambi. And so it is, that I have avoided game ever since. However I will be in Paris in 2 weeks and keep reading about gibier. Does anyone have a dish and a place to eat it that would change my reluctance to eat Bambi? Let me know. I don't think I am ready for bloody bore.
