Gale's Pasadena

We arrived at Gale’s last night at exactly 5pm. Unbeknownst to us, this is the time that they open. This was the first time that I had been here. There was only one other table which had people sitting at it when we arrived. One of the owners came up and greeted us and seated us at a 2-top along the south wall. This place really started filling up after we got there. One thing I did not like was that there was another 2-top next to us and even though there were only 3 tables sat, the hostess tried to seat someone at the one that was right next to us, about 2 feet away. Good thing the woman asked to be seated at another table against the wall. I would say that all the tables, except the ones outside, were occupied at least once while we were there.
We looked over the daily specials and then went to the regular menu. I determined that I wanted to try the Margherita Pizza (my favorite) and get a small chopped antipasto salad (to get some meat).
We were brought water and bread with some olive oil with balsamic. I thought the bread was good and really liked the olive oil and balsamic that they used.
We determined that we would get a medium pizza and the large salad and share.
The salad arrived and A asked if there was meat in it. The waitress said yes and was off. Well, we started eating and searching and could not find any meat. We continued eating (it really was a very good salad with artichoke hearts, pepperoncini, mushrooms, tomatoes, grilled veggies, shaved parmesan, etc. – however no meat). We called the waitress over and showed her that there was no meat. She brought us a small bowl of various chopped meats. It would have definitely been better if the meats had the chance to meld with the salad, but it was delicious nonetheless.
The pizza arrived and looked delicious. This pizza had a zesty tomato sauce, cheese, basil and tomatoes on top (too many tomatoes if you ask me). I had asked for it well done. We asked her for some freshly grated parmesan and dried chilis and it was fantastic! I had to scrape off some of the tomatoes but it was really, really good. I would definitely order it again. Very fresh and tasty.
We were full, but being with the world’s greatest chocolate lover, we “looked” at the dessert menu and promptly ordered the Pear Sorbet and the Banana something bread pudding with chocolate chunks. The Pear sorbet was out of this world there were three scoops and the pear flavor was very strong. It even had that ever so slight grainy feel that you get when you eat a pear. I could not stop eating this. I think that the bread pudding was good, but was not really focusing on it. The pudding came with vanilla ice cream on top and chocolate and caramel sauce squirted over it.
All in all, this was a great meal. Kinda wish the meat was in the salad, but that was a small thing in an otherwise great meal.
We will definitely be back. Total before tax and tip was around $42.
