Gabrielle's - Centerbrook

I remember thinking I should try out Gabrielle's restaurant in the Centerbrook area of Essex, CT last year when it opened, but somehow never got around to it. Now I wish I had. Just had a great Mother's Day dinner there, and everything was top flight. Duck mousse appetizer; large portions of lamb and pork entrees, cooked just right with rosemary mashed potatoes, and a decadent chocolate dessert. Even the chunks of poppyseed bread were above average. Although I am not a wine maven, the wine list appeared quite adequate and I enjoyed a nice glass of Norman Zinfandel. Pleasant decorations add to the atmosphere.

The chef has considerable experience including Cafe Routier and Restaurant du Village. Highly recommended.

(78 Main St., Centerbrook, near intersection Main St. and Rt. 154 where Steve's Centerbrook Cafe used to be. Reservations recommended: 860-767-2440)
