GA, SC bbq - 2 things

thing one: I had bbq at this place in Gainesville, GA that was quite tasty. Golden Pig 1296 Dawsonville Hwy. Gainesville, GA 30501 (770) 781-1286. It's Highway 53 I think. They are an extension to a BP gas station. They used to be in another location, but closed due the the "old man's" health problem. Now they're back! I got a to go order of sliced pork (my first experience with that, and I find I like chopped better for sandwiche, for which this was intended, but eating slabs in the car on the way to the house wasn't a bad thing) slaw, and brunswick stew. I wasn't crazy about their sauce. I do like ketchup based sauce, but this was just too sweet for me and had a funny aftertaste. Their meat stands alone very well. We made sandwiches at home and used Henry Robert's sauce. Slaw had a good tangy sweet flavor, chopped fine for sandwiches. The flavor of the meat was very nice and smokey - tender and juicy as well. The brunswick stew was wonderful. Very meaty and lean but juicy with corn and tomato and a nice amount of heat. My dad asked me how my husband liked the stew I took home and I had to say he didn't even know about it ; ). They also have sides of FF, BBQ beans and chips, GA peach cobbler, and of course, banana pudding. Ribs too. Can't wait to try them.

Thing two: Went by Sweatmans Thursday afternoon on my way back from Charleston. I guess I forgot they were only open on Fri & Sat. I wondered if everything was OK since Mr Sweatman transitioned. I know the kids stepped in a while back. I saw some guys at the back of the smokehouse. Didn't stop to chat as I have done before, but I would think that they were getting ready for the weekend. Sign out front is the same.
