I do envy those who can request recommendations for the "best" and "money is no object."
Alas, for me, there is a ceiling for how much I could afford to spend on a meal, even if it was a special occasion.
So, just for fun, I thought I'd ask for all of your recommendations for great values in nice (nicer?) restaurants. By great value I don't mean a three dollar shrimp burrito as your favorite hole in the wall that's so big you get leftovers the next morning. Or the family run diner with huge portions for the price.
I'm talking about nice restaurants, with good service and a either an interesting menu or maybe a simple menu done very well.
I can tell you that I'm not a wine drinker necessarily. So, for me, I wouldn't be that concerned with how a bottle of wine was going to impact the bottom line. (Others might be interested in the recs in this thread, so wine prices might be relevant in general). I do like a beer or two, sometimes a Beam and soda, so if the rec is for me, figure in a bit of a bar bill.
My wife and I are not huge on dessert, but on special occasions we would share something ... maybe split two things but for the sake of argument, figure one dessert. I'm sure we'd indulge in at least one appetizer, maybe two if we were feeling there were several things we'd want to try.
Oh yeah ... what's value? What's reasonable? I dunno. It does change for me depending on the meal. But I'm going to arbitrarily say that I'm looking for recommendations in the $75.00 - $100.00 range. (And that's for a full meal for each. For purposes of this thread, I'm not looking for a place where we have to split an entree and an appetizer to get into that range. The exception to this last caveat would be one of the steak houses where the piece of meat is so large, it's almost assumed it's going to be split.)
Feel free to aim your recs at me or more generally to the board. But in short, I'm looking for your favorite places for a nice maybe even special dinner in the price range I've suggested.
Feel free to be as detailed as you like. Maybe this thread will be a good reference for me and others in the future.
