Thanks to everyone for your suggestions for my trip to FW. I just got home today and had a great time. I have to agree with Grillin' and Chillin' that Joe T. Garcia's has a nice garden atmosphere and that they food is satifyingly good, but definately not the best the southwest has to offer. Actually, I can get comparable Mexican food here in the Washington, DC area! So, though that was nice, the search continued. We got a tip from my friend's brother-in-law to try, Los Vaqueros, which is at 2629 N. Main St, near the Stockyards. I must report this is the meal I was seeking! I got tacos al carbon, they were tenderloin- very flavorful and tender. The tortilla was homemade and very good and the charro beans were perfect. Everything on the plate was perfect! A fresh pico de gallo, guacamole with a slice of lime just the way I like it, fluffy rice. The atmosphere was nice and we had a great waiter. My friend got tortilla soup and enchiladas and was as happy as I was with the meal. Lucky her, she gets to go again!!
We never did get to go for bbq which I regret, but these things happen. We went for fondue last night which I really could have done without. (not my choice), that restaurant was Simply Fondue in Arlington. The waitress was great, but the food was very expensive for what it was. It was dark in there and I could not see what I was cooking so I kept putting half-cooked food back in the oil to cook. Also, the burner on the table where the fondue pot was had a problem and took forever to heat properly. Fortunately, when you are with people you like things like this are always more bearable!
