Frying oil: reuse and disposal?

Hi-

I'm one of those people who's not afraid to do some deep frying from time to time, but I'm really not quite sure what to do with the used oil, which may be in varying states of "dirtyness" after one use. I have heard that there is a powder used in Japan that turns the oil into a gel which is then easier to dispose of. But I'd prefer to find a cheap and easy way to filter and reuse the oil. Any suggestions?
